State Training Centre
Before Independence of India, the Associations of Thiru-Cochin and Kerala jointly utilized 13 acres of land for Training which is graciously given to us by his Highness Maharaja of Travancore Sri.Chithirathirunal at Oolanpara, near Peroorkada. The Headquarters also functioned there. Later this land handed over to Hindustan Latex and we have given 1 acre of land and building for our Headquarters near Cantonment house -Thiruvananthapuram and land for camping Centre at Ponmudi. We rejected the proposal at Ponmudi, at that time ,due to lack of conveyance facility, climate, communication problem ,the proposed land was given to Tourism Dept. and we were given 10.5 acres of land at Palode, by the government in the year 1972. Our beautiful State Training Centre of the Kerala State Bharat Scouts and Guides is at Palode, Nanniyodu Panchayat of Thiruvananthapuram Revenue District 34 kms. away from Thiruvananthapuram city. It has a variety species of big trees and it is like a forest and attracts different kinds of birds and animals. The flora and fauna in our Centre attract each participant who is coming for training. It has an administrative block, a multi-purpose hall, 6 huts 7 tent bases and three toilet blocks. The ‘Bhodi Circle’, ‘Pachmarhi Circle’ and ‘Singaram Circle’ are very beautiful, influencing , enduring and cherish in the minds of all participants. It is one among the best Training Centres in India. Due to the hard work of former State Organising Commissioner and Trainer, Sri.M.R Gopalapillai, the Centre got fenced and protected giving land for roads to the neighbours who are residing nearby. In 1973 the first Himalaya Wood Badge camp was held under the leader ship of National Training Commissioner Sri. R.S. Dhiman. The first Patrol Leader Trainers Training Camp was conducted during the year 1976. Every year so many Training Camps are conducted here for both Scouters and Guiders and for Scouts and Guides.
